Our nervous systems evolved to move at the pace of rivers and seasons, not notifications and nonstop demands.
Somatic work can be a bridge back to that original wisdom.
Through gentle, body-led practices, you relearn how to track sensation, follow your internal waves, and access a steadiness that isn’t dependent on circumstances. It’s a return to yourself, and a remembering of how good it feels to live from a regulated, rooted place.Â
what is SE?
Somatic Experiencing® (SE) is a gentle, body-based approach to healing trauma and chronic stress. Instead of focusing on retelling or analyzing past experiences, SE works with the nervous system and the sensations in your body – meeting your system where it is, at a pace that feels safe and supportive.
This work is inspired by the natural way animals recover after intense experiences. Their bodies know how to move out of survival mode and return to balance. SE helps humans reconnect with that same innate capacity. Through small, carefully guided steps, the body can release patterns of tension, overwhelm, or shutdown that may have been held for years.
As that stuck survival energy begins to soften and move, many people notice a greater sense of ease, resilience, and presence in their daily lives. Clients often describe feeling more grounded, more connected to themselves, and more able to access creativity, joy, and meaning.
I find this approach resonates strongly with those whose stress-management strategies include movement and outdoor time. We'll be working with the body here, but in more subtle ways than you might be used to.
If you have a relationship with nature, you're likely already accessing some of this work's potency.Â
ways to work with me
My favorite way to work with clients is in long-term (typically 6-month) containers, meeting bi-weekly with voice messaging support between sessions. Most of my client work happens online, but if you are in Anchorage, in-person sessions are an option as well.Â
I do occasionally have space for drop-in 1:1 sessions for those not quite ready to make the leap to a container.
about meÂ
Hi, I'm Sarah (she/they) MSW, SEP, CPT
I am a life-long Alaskan, somatic psychotherapist, and movement professional. In my work as a nervous system educator and therapist, I integrate Somatic Experiencing with Internal Family Systems, EMDR, and connection to nature to help people understand and work with their nervous system patterns.
You may also recognize me from my other endeavors at Mind & Mountain, which integrate fitness, nature, & the Nervous System through Mindful Interval Training workouts. I'm looking forward to working with you and sharing what I know about nervous system healing and capacity building for navigating the times we're living in.Â

Coregulation Conversations
In 2025 I started my podcast – Coregulation Conversations – as an outlet for me, and a free resource for you! I love having the space to elaborate on somatic nervous system regulation topics, interview my teachers and friends who are also in the Somatic Experiencing (SE) world, and to share helpful skills with everyone but especially those who are new to SE or might not have the means for 1:1 sessions.
Reading RecsÂ
There is no limit to the number of books out there about somatics and nervous system regulation. Below are a few of my favorites:Â
O.R.C.A.S. Masterclass
I’ve developed a model for working with the nervous system that I refer to as the O.R.C.A.S. model. It’s the framework I use in my 1:1 client work and group sessions. If you’re curious about this methodology, you can check out the Masterclass I taught on the framework here, and/or listen to my podcast episode about it here.
